Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida stated that he had been invited to Visit Ukraine

March 01, 2023: -Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida might visit Ukraine’s capital prior to the G-7 Hiroshima Summit, an ambassador of Ukraine, Sergiy Korsunsky, stated to Japan.

The spokesperson stated after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attended a virtual G-7 leaders’ meeting on Kishida’s invitation as the world honoured one year of the war in Ukraine on Friday.

When asked if the ambassador witnessed Kishida visiting before Japan hosted the summit in the month of May, Korsunsky replied, “for sure,” without making it further on the timeline of the potential trip.

“He understands fully that the G-7 chair’s responsibility is to visit Ukraine before the summit in Hiroshima,” Korsunsky said, and further stated that it is about “when and how.”

Kishida’s office waited to respond to CNBC’s request for comment.

“From my talks with the political leaders around Kishida’s visit, in the parliament and the administration, he is very much willing to go,” he said. “They will result, I’m ensuring in the best possible manner as soon as possible,” he stated.

After U.S. President Joe Biden’s surprise stay, Kishida is the leader who left among the Group of Seven who had not come to Ukraine since Russia invaded the previous year.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada, President Emmanuel Macron of France, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak have all had a visit.

Kishida’s trip makes him the second Asian leader following Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s visit in the previous year.

“We want this to happen very soon,” said Korsunsky, adding he is unable to create details surrounding the meetings of the trip public.

European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine and European Council President Charles Michel are picturing a Special European Council summit in Brussels Thursday, February 09 2023. EU leaders will discuss recent developments regarding Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and continued EU support for Ukraine.

He emphasized logistical matters remain one of the top issues of a potential trip by Kishida to Ukraine.
