China's Xi Jinping is achieving an exceptional third term as president

March 13, 2023: On Friday, Chinese leader Xi Jinping profited from an outstanding third presidential term.

Xi was widely expected to stay president in this month’s largely ceremonial parliamentary meeting, such as the “dual Sessions.” The annual meeting marks the discussions of an advisory gathering and a legislature, the National People’s Congress.

On Friday, Delegates to congress also reappointed Xi being the chairman of the Central Military Commission.

Xi increased through the political ranks of China, becoming president in 2013 and ending term limits in 2018.

In October, in the Chinese Communist Party’s 20th National Congress, Xi combined his control of the ruling group by filling the highest leadership circle with loyalists.

On Friday, Zhao Leji, a member of that core group overseeing party discipline, formally became the chairman of the National People’s Congress’ standing group.

Following twice-a-decade party congresses, the higher leaders of the Chinese Communist Party fill administration positions such as president and premier.

Delegates are ready to approve China’s new premier on Saturday.

Xi is scheduled to speak at Monday’s parliamentary meeting’s closing ceremony. The new premier is set to talk with the press later that day.

Han Zheng, previously executive vice premier formally became vice president on Friday. Wang Qishan previously held the role.

Delegates on Friday approved a proposal to design the State Council, the Chinese administration’s top executive body.

A draft of the plan came in earlier this week as the ruling Communist Party of China is anticipated to significantly increase its direct control of the government.
