Depression rates in the United States are skyrocketing, particularly among young adults and women, a new poll shows. The survey, published by Gallup found 29% of U.S. adults report being diagnosed with depression at some point during their lifetimes, an increase from 19.6% in 2015.Meanwhile, 17.8% of those aged 18 and older either currently have or are currently being treated for depression, up from 10.5% in 2015. According to Gallup, both rates are the highest ever recorded by the analytics company since it began tracking depression rates.Women’s rates of depression during their lifetimes climbed from 26.2% in 2017 to 36.7% in 2023.Rates of those with current depression increased from 17.6% to 23.8% over the same period. By comparison, men with depression during their lifetimes saw a smaller increase from 17.7% in 2017 to 20.4% in 2023. Current rates for depression rose from 9.3% to 11.3%.When a pioneering industry Kingmaker, Dany Sfeir heard these numbers he was taken aback.
Dany has an extremely extraordinary and inspiring career where he has catapulted numerous brands to multimillion-dollar plus revenue across various consumer goods sectors.
In his role at Tempur-Pedic International Inc., Dany drove revenue growth from $30 million to over $1.2 billion within five years. He successfully transformed a virtually unknown brand and category into a household name, with a presence now in more than 42 countries. He has also held leadership roles at NordicTrack Inc., Dormeo NA, Select Comfort, and geneME, LLC.
So naturally, when he read the current state of the country, he wanted to start his next journey, a journey whose path was to make a natural remedy for depression and the destination was a healthy nation.
We had the opportunity to talk to Dany Sfeir, the CEO of HedoniaUSA Inc., who is developing a revolutionary treatment for depression that will be available to people who are willing to turn their lives around.
A Leader with Immense Capabilities
According to Dany, the Covid-19 pandemic took an undeniable toll on mental health. Rates of clinical depression had been rising steadily in the US but “jumped notably” in recent years, the Gallup data shows. However, experts say that awareness of mental health has grown, which could lead to higher rates of diagnoses. Younger generations seem especially willing to open up about mental health struggles, he said. Yet, the COVID-19 pandemic also disrupted pivotal periods of growth for young adults, which could have left them more susceptible to the drivers of depression.
HedoniaUSA is a medical food specially formulated to address the nutritional needs of people with depression. It uses three naturally occurring nutrients in our bodies and has been proven safe and effective in clinical trials for over twenty years.
Dany is pivotal in driving HedoniaUSA’s growth, strengthening product positioning, attracting top talent, and expanding market opportunities across North America and then globally. He will also lead funding initiatives and chart various strategies, ensuring the company’s growth and success. Dany has a wealth of experience and expertise to lead HedoniaUSA towards sustained growth and success, including its first product offering, a medical food specifically formulated to address the unique nutritional needs associated with depression.
“The above statistics are staggering in my opinion, but I believe that my career has uniquely prepared me for this role, and I am excited and confident that our collective approach at HedoniaUSA will provide a new and additive solution for those suffering from depressive symptoms,” elucidates Dany. “I feel honored to lead this remarkable team that has been focused on finding the intersection of innovation and compassion – a place where together we can redefine healthcare.”
The natural way of treating depression – with food!
Dany talks at length about this revolutionary discovery, which was incorporated by Dr. Alex Vuckovic, MD, who is the Founder, Inventor and Former CEO at HedoniaUSA. “While you may have heard about the nutrients listed above (and maybe even take one or two of them), they have never been combined in the specific, patented way they are in HedoniaUSA,” he explains. “For example, low folate levels can be involved in depression, but taking supplemental folate by itself doesn’t always help.”
Folate must first be converted to L-Methylfolate to enter the brain. Insufficiency in folate and SAMe has been linked to depression, and the production of critical neurotransmitters relies on both nutrients. L-Methylfolate and SAMe work together throughout the body and in the brain and act together to synthesize serotonin and other neurotransmitters.
Low levels of the omega-3 fatty acid EPA can result in chronic inflammation in the brain. Neuro-inflammation is considered to be a major factor in depression, and restoring EPA levels can help restore the brain to normal function.
HedoniaUSA’s unique combination of the three key nutrients not only ensures patients take the proper amount of each nutrient but also allows the nutrients to work in a synergistic way that maximizes their effectiveness. By combining these nutrients, HedoniaUSA is able to address three different nutritional targets that occur along the pathway to depression.
HedoniaUSA is a leader in the dietary management of depression. Its focus is on easing the burden for people with this mental disorder by creating naturally occurring, non-pharmaceutical products that enhance medication. The mental fitness and wellness company is currently developing and using revolutionary technologies to create new delivery methods for ingestible and curated supplements that will enhance customer wellness.
Rebuilding the Future
According to experts, several factors contribute to rising depression rates. The widespread adoption of social media platforms has led to adverse mental health outcomes. Excessive social media use has been linked to anxiety, depression, and feelings of loneliness.
The pandemic has exacerbated mental health concerns due to increased stress, isolation, and uncertainty. One has to note that depression has no single cause; it frequently has several contributing causes. These may include a history of mental health problems, genetic susceptibility, abnormalities in brain chemistry, trauma or stress, or significant life changes or events. Although each person’s experience with sadness is unique, depression frequently develops gradually. It can either be brought on by a particular incident or occur for no apparent reason. Since depression may be effectively controlled and treated with therapy, medication, or a combination, early identification and seeking treatment are crucial.
“HedoniaUSA can help, because it is made of ingredients that are needed in our body on a regular basis which also leads to a healthy mind. But we do strongly suggest that patients consult with their physicians or care providers before they start HedoniaUSA to know if they have any deficiencies or allergic reactions to the ingredients,” says Dany. “This is not a drug. We have said it repeatedly, this is not a drug but rather a medical food that can help you in getting better and healthier by addressing the dietary needs in your body. It will be available in August and can be obtained without a prescription from the Hedonia website!
