November 10, 2020: The recent study finding the after-effect of COVID-19 treatment is out and, it is seen that one in 5 patients who are diagnosed are seen with mental illness. The pre-existing mental disorder patients are 65% likely to be diagnosed with COVID.
After researching 65million people and more than 650,000 COVID patients the university published the report. The outcome mentions the impact of COVID patients is more likely to encounter a mental illness within a certain time frame.
The COVID patients are compared with other patients who are infected with other diseases like flu, viral fever, skin infection, respiratory infection and compared the results that would help to get details to review the vaccine outcomes.
Dr. Max Taquet, one of the researchers, said the unexpected finding “needs investigation,” recommending that having a psychiatric disorder should “be added to the list of risk factors for Covid-19.”
Paul Harrison, a professor of psychiatry at the University of Oxford and leader of the study, said the findings validate worries that Covid-19 survivors will be at a greater risk of mental health problems. “Services need to be ready to provide care, especially since our results are likely to be underestimates of the actual number of cases,” he said. “We urgently need research to investigate the causes and identify new treatments.”
