December 8, 2020 Member of the public Margaret Keenan, a 90-year-old grandmother became the first person in the world to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine outside of trial conditions.
In trials, the vaccine was shown to have around 95% efficacy. The vaccine will be given to front-line health workers, care home workers and those aged over 80, before it is given more widely among the U.K. population.
Vaccinations will be administered starting Tuesday at around 50 hospital hubs in England. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will also begin their vaccination rollouts the same day.
“I feel so privileged to be the first person vaccinated against Covid-19, it’s the best early birthday present I could wish for because it means I can finally look forward to spending time with my family and friends in the New Year after being on my own for most of the year,” Keenan said, according to the report.
