The US is looking at Banning Tik Tok and other Chinese social media apps

July 7, 2020: Mike Pompeo, Secretary of State addressed yesterday, said the United States government is planning to ban Tik Tok and other social media Chinese apps in the country.  He also said in an interview that the United States is very serious about this and are looking to get it right.

Some experts also added the point saying the United States people should download the app only if they are ready to give their personal information to the Chinese Communist Party. The application is already in the spotlight due to the security concern and, many countries like India, Hong Kong are at the forefront of banning the application.

Tik Tok spoke person said the company is led by an American CEO, and there is no priority than providing a safe and secure platform for the users. The information of the United States users is stored in the US server and is not in China. The information of the users is secure and does not come under any Chinese law. He also said they have never provided any user data to the Chinese government and would never give even if asked.

The clash between the United States and China has impacted many different verticals like Technology, National Security, Trade, etc.

Tik Tok, is owned by the Beijing startup ByteDance. It has repeatedly addressed the security issue saying it operates separately from ByteDance and, the data servers and the user information are stored in a US server for the country database, and a back up is in the Singapore server. The app was popular when launched and had traction in the United States and other countries with a total download of 315 million in the first month of the launch. This is the highest among any Chinese app in the market.

The platform was used by some of the small and medium-sized companies as well to advertise and reach to the B2C customers directly. TikTok is under tremendous pressure as the company receives more roadblocks from different countries.
