Walmart hires 256,000 veterans

July 1, 2020: Walmart announces the hiring of 256,000 veterans and also moving 44,000 veterans internally for better pay and promotion with the responsibilities on Tuesday.

“We’re forever grateful to our veterans for their service, and it’s an honor to offer them opportunities at Walmart,” said Walmart President and CEO Doug McMillon.  The CEO also focused on the culture of the company and the diverse environment within the work. He is happy that so many of them have accepted to join Walmart and, they are looking forward to helping the veterans and their families.

It was 2013 when the company announced the Veterans Welcome Home Commitment program on a memorial day and promised to hire 100,000 veterans to the company and, later the count was further increased, to 250,000 in 2015. Currently, the count has touched 256,000 as of Tuesday this week. Being on the front line is another opportunity to help people around and, after being in the defense force this job role feels more excited said veteran.

The leadership team of Walmart has helped to make the decision and execute in a better way, said the CEO. The company announced the Military Spouse Career connection program to support the family of the veterans during the hiring process and, they have promised to hire 31,000 spouses to the company.

Walmart is looking into a potential partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide better work, health, and wellness of the veterans. Upskilling is one of the prominent focuses of Walmart and also planning to expand themselves to Small businesses, encourage the veterans for entrepreneurship and, get products to market and, reach better buyers through the Walmart channel.

Since 2011, Walmart has invested more than $40 million in programs supporting job training, education, and public and private community-based initiatives for veterans and military families.
